Could therapy be for you?

As individuals we usually have the resources to cope with everyday life,
however events such as bereavement, job loss, divorce, or challenges
to our identity and wellbeing can have a detrimental effect on those
resources. Having made the decision to seek help, taking the first steps
towards choosing a counsellor can be a daunting process. I aim to make this
a more comfortable transition and rewarding experience by providing a warm,
safe and non-judgmental environment, allowing you to talk in confidence about
any issues and thoughts that may be troubling you.

My profile

I am Laura Hewitt and through my social work background I have had the privilege of working closely with families from challenging backgrounds. My role was to provide a stable and stimulating environment in which children were able to thrive. In this setting I gained an understanding of how important the influence of family is on our understanding of being in relationship with others, and gaining a sense of who we are.

For many years I have worked in the private sector of travel and tourism for a well established airline. This enabled me to develop a greater appreciation of the diverse and multi-cultural society within which we reside, and has strengthened my awareness of the many ways in which stress can impact upon our wellbeing.

My passion is for building a therapeutic relationship, in order to help you achieve a greater sense of self and work towards self-acceptance and direction in the area of concern for you.
I am a fully qualified humanistic counsellor and member of the BACP, which requires me to abide by a code of ethics that includes, amongst its many qualities, confidentiality. I aim to create a warm, empathic, trusting and non-judgmental environment, as I believe the therapeutic relationship that develops between client and counsellor is paramount for therapy to have a positive outcome. Although I am trained in the humanistic tradition, which applies a particular approach and psychological techniques, the client's uniqueness, needs and pace are what influences our way of working together, and are key in the counselling process.

I provide short and long-term counselling, which is tailored to your individual requirements, and offer a free 30 minute, no obligation initial session, to give you the experience of whether working with me would be beneficial for you.
